Public Health Update: Ottawa County Public Health Director Lisa Stefanovsky updayed the Board on the lastest regarding Covid-19 in Ottawa County. By all relavant statistics, Ottawa County is in a very critical period. Both Cases and Positivity rates are at or near all-time highs and Hospital Utilization is near capacity. Please be exrta cautious this Thanksgiving holiday.
Declaration of a Local State of Emergency Resolution: The Board approved the Resolution to extend a State of Emergency within Ottawa County due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Summary:
The Board of Commissioners adopted a resolution to declare a local State of Emergency at its meeting on March 24, 2020. While there has been progress in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic, there is still the need to take local actions in order to respond to the rapidly changing challenges posed by this pandemic. The State of Emergency paves the way for the County Administrator to take emergency actions to deploy County workers to group homes or change job descriptions to alter duties temporarily. It is my hope that going forward, any action taken will appear on the agenda for the following business meeting.
Parks and Recreation Commission: The Board accepted the easement with David Maier for the Idema Explorers trail route along the shoreline of the Grand River at the purchase price of $2,500.
Summary:
Ottawa County Parks has been seeking easements and property acquisitions along the proposed Grand River Greenway Idema Explorers Trail route to facilitate construction of the trail and improve the safety and experience for trail users. These purchases include a variety of road front as well as riverfront parcels.
Final agreement has now been reached with one key land owner who controls property along a particularly important segment between new trail constructed on Cottonwood Drive and the existing trail system at the Kent County line. This segment has long been desired because of its riverfront location, natural features, and ideal connection between existing park property and the Kent Trail system.
Ottawa County Housing Commission: The Ottawa County Housing Commission (OCHC) passed its 2020-21 Strategic Plan, which was held on August to ensure the commission has a clearly-defined direction in addressing the County’s Housing needs. Moving forward, this plan should act as a guide and reference for the OCHC as it continues working with both new and existing partners. You can view the plan here.
MDHHS Grants: The Health Department received a number of grants over the last month, which are displayed below:
