Flock Work Session

In the spring of 2024, the Ottawa County Board of Commissioners approved the first Flock contracts. Over those past two years, both the Sheriff’s Office and Ottawa County residents have come to recognize what a powerful tool Flock really is. The Sheriff has identified significant public-safety benefits, while residents have raised legitimate privacy concerns arising from those same capabilities.

As we enter the work session, we need a clear picture of how the system has operated over the past two years: the benefits it produces, the concerns it creates, and whether the rules and safeguards governing it are commensurate with the power of the technology. From there, we can determine what changes, if any, are needed if we are to continue using it in the future.
